Somalia, 21 January 2026 Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Alper Aktas and Saudi Arabian Envoy Ahmed Mohammed Almowallad met in Mogadishu to discuss Somalia cooperation amid increasing global interest in the Horn of Africa.
According to a brief statement issued by the Turkish Embassy in Somalia, on Tuesday, the discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure development, and support for state institutions.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues efforts to deepen relations with its strategic partners in the Middle East, seeking additional support for security stabilization, institutional rebuilding, and the improvement of public services. Türkiye has long been one of Somalia’s key partners, providing assistance in security, military training, and development projects, while Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in political, financial, and humanitarian support.

Both embassies emphasized the importance of trilateral cooperation that supports Somalia’s stability and economic growth. The two ambassadors also referenced their recent joint participation in the inauguration ceremony of the President and Vice President of the North East State of Somalia, noting that their attendance reflected support for Somalia’s sovereignty and unity.
No formal agreements were announced following the meeting. However, the discussions form part of ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and supporting Somalia during its reconstruction phase.
