Kenya, 27 April 2026 - Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed will remain in office for now after the Sports Disputes Tribunal stepped in to halt attempts to remove him, setting the stage for a fast-tracked legal showdown.
In an interim ruling issued on Monday, the tribunal blocked the implementation of resolutions passed on April 24 that sought to oust him, describing the matter as urgent and requiring immediate intervention.
“The Tribunal grants a temporary order… restraining the respondents from effecting the resolutions,” the ruling stated.
The decision offers Mohammed a short reprieve as the dispute over his leadership moves into formal legal proceedings, drawing attention across Kenya’s football circles.
The case was filed by Ahmed Abdi Mohamed under a certificate of urgency, prompting the tribunal to prioritise the matter. Both sides have now been given strict timelines to submit their arguments, signalling an expedited process.

Applicants are required to serve all documents by 29 April 2026 while responses from the opposing parties must be filed by 4 May 2026. The tribunal has also allowed for oral submissions, underscoring the weight of the case.
A three-member panel will hear the matter, with a mention scheduled for 5 May 2026 to review progress and determine the next steps.
The ruling temporarily pauses what had become a tense leadership standoff within Kenyan football, giving both sides time to present their case as questions over governance and control of the federation move into the legal arena.
