UK, September 01, 2026 - Manchester City have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Enzo Fernández in a stunning deadline-day transfer that could become one of the biggest deals in Premier League history.
The Argentina international is set to leave Stamford Bridge after City and Chelsea reached an agreement worth around £125 million, according to the latest reports. Fernández has been given the green light to complete his medical and sign his contract, with the transfer now at the final formalisation stage.
The move brings an extraordinary end to a transfer saga that has continued for much of the summer.
Manchester City had been monitoring Fernández for weeks, with Chelsea initially valuing their midfielder at £120 million. City missed an earlier deadline set by Chelsea to submit an offer, but negotiations were revived as the transfer window entered its final days.
City's pursuit was driven in part by their need for another elite midfielder following major changes in Guardiola's squad. Fernández's ability to dictate play, progress the ball and contribute defensively makes him an ideal fit for City's midfield.
The transfer also reunites Fernández with Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Chelsea and is now Manchester City's manager.

For Chelsea, the decision represents a major financial return on the player. Fernández joined the Blues from Benfica in January 2023 for approximately £107 million, then a British-record transfer fee.
However, selling one of their most important midfielders to a direct Premier League rival carries considerable sporting risk. Chelsea have been working to identify replacements, with Lamine Camara and Manu Koné among the midfielders reportedly considered.
The reported £125 million package would put Fernández at the centre of another British transfer-record deal, although the precise structure of the fee and whether all reported add-ons are guaranteed will depend on the final documentation.
For Manchester City, meanwhile, this is a statement signing.
