Hargeisa, 11 September 2026 KAAH Party Spokesperson Abdirashid Aideed Yasin has questioned Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro's plan to offer up to 2,000 troops for a potential international mission in Gaza if requested by the United States and Israel.
Yasin said Somaliland's security forces should prioritize challenges within the territory, specifically calling for the release of prisoners he said are being held in Las Anod and for greater efforts to address security concerns in western Somaliland, particularly in parts of Awdal and Salal.
The KAAH position reflects a view that Somaliland's military and security resources should first be directed toward domestic challenges before being committed to international operations.
The comments came after President Irro said Somaliland was prepared to contribute troops to an international effort aimed at stabilizing Gaza, while stressing that Hargeisa would not independently seek to deploy forces and would act only if formally requested.

According to i24NEWS, the proposed international force for Gaza could eventually number around 20,000 troops, with the United States expected to play a leading role.
The debate comes as relations between Somaliland and Israel continue to deepen.
President Irro has also said Somaliland is seeking additional security support from Israel, the United States and other allies. He said Somaliland has forces capable of defending the territory but needs modern military equipment and technology to strengthen its capabilities.
The differing positions highlight a broader debate over Somaliland's security priorities: whether its military resources should remain focused primarily on domestic challenges or whether the administration should consider a role in an international security mission in Gaza.
