DJIBOUTI, October 26 2026 Djibouti’s gendarmerie arrested 224 people staying in the country irregularly during raids on two neighbourhoods of the capital on Saturday and returned them to the border, the state news agency ADI said on Monday.
The operation in Ambouli and Djebel began at 6 a.m., ADI said. It was carried out by the Judicial Group of the National Gendarmerie, backed by the Mobile Gendarmerie.
Officers targeted several homes that had been identified in advance as having housed people staying in the country irregularly, according to the agency.
Those arrested were first given humanitarian assistance and then taken to the border in gendarmerie vehicles, ADI said. It did not give their nationalities or say which border they were taken to.
Djibouti lies on a major route used by migrants from the Horn of Africa trying to reach Yemen and the Gulf states, many of them travelling on foot and by boat across the Gulf of Aden.
