MOGADISHU, 4 August 2026 (Dawan) – Somalia's Towfiiq Party has rejected the official results of the Galmudug elections, accusing the electoral commission of manipulating vote totals and denying it seats it says it won.
In a statement, the party said the announced results were marred by fraud and did not reflect the will of voters.
Towfiiq said its polling agents recorded 53,054 votes, representing 52.81% of ballots cast in the election for the regional assembly. However, it said the electoral commission announced that the party had received only about 26,000 votes.
The party also said its agents recorded 54,064 votes in the local council elections, which it said translated into 134 of the 243 council seats.
Towfiiq said the discrepancy between its own vote tallies and the official results prompted its decision to reject the election outcome.

Party leader Sheikh Mohamed Shakir Ali Hassan said the vote conducted in Galmudug was not the election his party had campaigned for.
"The election held last month was not the election we prepared for in Galmudug. It was fundamentally different from what we had planned, and the people of Galmudug are witnesses to that. Those who changed the process are the National Electoral Commission," he said.
Shakir called on the electoral authorities to review and correct the election results, urging a return to what he described as the genuine outcome of the vote.
The Galmudug elections were held on July 30, and the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced the official results on Monday. The commission has not publicly responded to the allegations made by the Towfiiq Party.
