Kenya, April 22 ,2026 - What appeared to be an ordinary homestead in Butere has turned out to be at the centre of a major drug seizure, after detectives uncovered 155 kilogrammes of cannabis hidden inside a house.
The raid, carried out in Ebushitinji village in Lunza division, followed a tip-off from members of the public who suspected illegal activity at the residence.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations moved in and conducted a search, recovering five large bags packed with cannabis. The suspect, identified as Dennis Obera, was arrested at the scene and taken to Butere Police Station, where he remains in custody awaiting court appearance.
Police say the operation sends a clear message that no location is beyond reach in the fight against narcotics.
“Those who poison our society have no hiding place,” the agency said, noting that the drugs have been secured as evidence as investigations continue.
The arrest is part of a wider crackdown on drug trafficking across the country. In recent days, similar intelligence-led operations have been carried out in Nakuru, Bungoma and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

In Nakuru, a suspect was intercepted with cannabis concealed in a backpack, believed to be intended for distribution. In Bungoma, officers seized four bales of bhang from a motorcycle, while in Elgeyo Marakwet, another suspect was found with 172 rolls of the drug.
Authorities say the ongoing operations highlight a growing effort to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the impact of illegal substances.
Members of the public have been urged to continue sharing information with security agencies, as investigations into the Butere case and other incidents continue.
