Kenya, May 19, 2026 - TikTok has banned over 100,000 accounts in Kenya in the fourth quarter of 2025, as part of a broader effort to weed out harmful content and strengthen safety guidelines on the platform.
In its latest report, released on Tuesday, May 19, the social media platform said that it banned 108,752 accounts, between October and December 2025, many of which were linked with underage users.
The report indicated that 93,704 of the banned accounts belonged to users under the age of 13, which contravenes the platform’s minimum age requirement.
As of early 2025, TikTok had approximately 15.1 million adult users (18+) in Kenya, marking a 42.7 percent year-on-year increase and representing 55.3 percent of the country's internet users.
In Kenya, the minimum age requirement for account ownership is 13 years old. Users aged 13–15 have their accounts set to private by default for enhanced safety.
Additionally, the report has revealed that during the reviewed period, 820,552 videos in Kenya were removed for contravening community guidelines, which primarily aim to maintain safety, legality, and community standards, often using automated technology to detect violations.
Content is typically removed for violating policies regarding dangerous acts, violent extremism, sexual content, harassment, or misinformation.
99.9 percent of the videos were removed from the platform before any reports from users were issued, while on the other hand, 98.4 percent were removed within 24 hours of being uploaded, according to the company.
“TikTok continues to enforce its Community Guidelines consistently and at scale, addressing harmful content such as misinformation, hate speech, and other policy violations,” the company said.
The company has indicated that it has weeded out 175,302,085, which represented 0.5 percent of the number of videos uploaded on the platforms during this period, with 152,580,933 being removed by AI and other machine learning processes.
The report has further indicated that 8,30,780, which had been initially removed from the platform, were reinstated for further review processes.
