Continuous Attacks Despite Peace Calls
Since taking office, President Cirro reported that Somaliland has faced continuous attacks from various directions, despite his immediate call for unconditional peace talks. Instead, the response has been continuous attacks on Eastern Somaliland," stated a press release from the Somaliland Presidency.
Commitment to Peace
The Presidency added that these challenges would not deter the new government's resolve. It has established a peace committee dedicated to finding a lasting solution to the issues plaguing these regions.
Regional Tensions
The regions of Sool and Sanaag are historically contentious areas contested by Khaatumo and Puntland, witnessing recurrent conflicts.
Call for International Involvement
President Cirro, who pledged during his election campaign to initiate unconditional peace talks in Sool and Sanaag, has called on the international community to play a significant role in the peace efforts ongoing in these regions.
