Hargeisa, 22 September 2026 Somaliland’s House of Representatives on Monday approved the Diplomatic Missions Law after debating its provisions and significance for diplomatic activities.
The law was passed during the ninth sitting of the House’s 15th session, chaired by First Deputy Speaker Said Mire Farah.
During the debate, lawmakers added Sections 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 33, 38 and 43 to the legislation.
Amendments were also made to Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 covering the title of the law, definitions, principles and objectives respectively.

The vote resulted in 30 lawmakers supporting the law, one voting against and eight abstaining. The deputy speaker subsequently declared the legislation approved.
The law is expected to provide a legal framework for the organisation, administration and responsibilities of Somaliland’s diplomatic missions as the authorities in Hargeisa seek to expand their external relations.
Its approval forms part of efforts to regulate Somaliland’s diplomatic representation and the activities of its overseas offices.
