Somalia, 4 January 2026 Somaliland has expressed support for the U.S.-led military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
A statement released by Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday said it supports “measured international action” to restore constitutional order and democratic legitimacy in the South American country.
“The Government of the Republic of Somaliland affirms its principled alignment with the United States,” the statement said. It added that U.S. engagement could help alleviate humanitarian suffering and combat transnational criminal networks.

The announcement follows a pre-dawn raid carried out by U.S. forces in Caracas on Saturday. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his administration would oversee a transition in Venezuela following the capture of Maduro and his wife.
Analysts say Somaliland’s support for the U.S. signals a closer alignment with Washington, coming shortly after Israel became the first state to formally recognize Somaliland’s independence.
