Somalia, 25 April 2026 — Somalia’s telecom regulator, the National Communications Authority, began drafting a national cybersecurity system as it met tech firms in Mogadishu.
The NCA gathered government officials, universities, private companies, tech firms, civic groups and experts to help draft the cybersecurity system.
NCA Director General Mustafa Yasin Sheikh urged stakeholders to carefully review the proposed documents and provide detailed feedback.
“We encourage all stakeholders to thoroughly examine these documents and submit comprehensive input on each provision,” he said.
State Minister for Communications and Technology Ahmed Diriye, who opened the meeting, highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity as digital adoption expands.

“The use of technology continues to grow, and without proper safeguards, these advancements can introduce new risks,” he said.
Participants discussed key issues including risk identification, compliance mechanisms, and the role of institutions in protecting Somalia’s digital systems.
Officials also stressed the importance of inter-agency cooperation to address emerging cyber threats and build a resilient digital ecosystem.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to contribute to finalizing Somalia’s cybersecurity risk management and compliance framework, a key step toward strengthening national digital security.
