Somalia, 21 November 2025- Somalia’s ruling Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP), led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has officially launched its primary election process for the upcoming Banadir local council elections, marking a key step in the party’s internal democratic procedures.
The JSP is also the first party to announce its internal primary elections to produce its official candidates for the Banadir elections scheduled for 30 November.
The party’s Interim Committee for Local Council Elections confirmed that candidate registration closed on 20 November 2025, with 522 members from all 16 districts of the Banadir region successfully registered.
The committee underscored that the primary elections will be conducted strictly in accordance with party regulations, emphasizing the need for candidates to adhere to campaign guidelines and maintain ethical standards throughout the process.
According to a statement issued by the JSP, the committee has approved a structured timeline covering awareness sessions, communication with members, and online voting. The schedule is as follows:

● Saturday, 22 November, 4:00 PM: A training and awareness session at the party’s central headquarters for all registered candidates.
● Sunday, 23 November: An email will be sent to all party members containing the voting link and key information about the primary election.
● Tuesday, 25 November (morning): Online voting will begin and will remain open until 27 November at 8:00 AM.
The JSP leadership noted that the primary election process reflects the party’s commitment to transparency, internal accountability, and strengthening participatory political culture within its ranks.
The results of the primaries will determine the party’s official candidates for the Banadir local council elections.
