MOGADISHU 2 May 2026 —Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called a political meeting in Mogadishu on May 10 to discuss key national issues, the presidency said.
The meeting will bring together the Council for the Future of Somalia, according to a statement from Villa Somalia.
The move follows a series of consultations the president has held in recent weeks with politicians, former leaders, traditional elders and other segments of society.

Discussions are expected to focus on state-building, elections, national unity and the country’s broader political direction.
Villa Somalia said the meeting will be conducted in an atmosphere of transparency and responsibility, with the aim of reaching practical outcomes.
Hassan Sheikh stressed the need for compromise and mutual understanding among political stakeholders to reach a sustainable agreement.
The federal government reaffirmed its commitment to a consensus-based political process while safeguarding Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and state institutions.
