MOGADISHU (Dawan), 8 August 2026 – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said it has arrested nine people accused of Al-Shabaab membership and involvement in attack plots targeting Mogadishu and surrounding areas.
According to NISA, the operation that led to the arrests was conducted in Garasbaaley, Kaxda and parts of Ceelasha Biyaha after monitoring the suspects’ activities for an extended period.
The agency said the group was planning attacks that could have caused harm to Somali civilians, adding that security forces succeeded in preventing the alleged plot before it could be carried out.

NISA said the detained individuals, and that they will be referred to judicial authorities once the investigations are completed.
The agency also urged the public to continue cooperating with security institutions and to report any suspicious activities that could threaten national security.
