Somalia, 14 May 2026 Somalia’s Livestock Ministry said it is finalizing a National Animal Feed Policy to boost livestock production and feed quality nationwide.
The ministry said the policy approval conference was held on Wednesday in cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The meeting brought together directors-general from livestock ministries in South West State, Jubbaland, Hirshabelle and Galmudug, alongside ministry department heads and private sector representatives involved in livestock development.
Officials said discussions focused on the importance of the policy for Somalia’s livestock-dependent communities, particularly pastoralists who form a major part of the country’s economy.
According to the ministry, the policy is intended to improve access to quality livestock feed, increase animal production and support sustainable development in the livestock sector.
