Somalia, 4 April 2026– Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has suspended the head of its South West State elections office, according to an official letter issued by the office of the chairperson.
The letter, dated April 4, 2026, stated that Abdifatah Abdullahi Mohamed had been relieved of his duties as head of the commission’s elections office in South West State.
The commission said the decision was made in accordance with its internal regulations and administrative procedures governing staff and operations. However, it did not state how long the suspension will last.
