Moroni (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s non-resident Ambassador to Comoros, Ilyas Ali Hassan, officially presented his credentials to President Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Moroni.
The credential presentation comes as President Assoumani has recently assumed leadership of the African Union. During the ceremony, Ambassador Ilyas reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to strengthening relations with Comoros, stating, “I reaffirm our dedication to strengthening the relationship between Somalia and Comoros, as well as maintaining the sovereignty and independence of both nations.”
This diplomatic step follows Ambassador Ilyas' earlier presentation of his credentials to President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi on July 3, held at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
Since May 2024, Ambassador Ilyas has served as Somalia's Ambassador to Tanzania and also represents Somalia in the East African Community (EAC). Additionally, he holds non-resident ambassadorial roles in Malawi, Rwanda, Mauritius, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Comoros.
