Jordan — Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar urged Arab countries to prevent their ports, territory and financial systems from being used for Somaliland deals.
He made the remarks during the opening session of the Arab League Council meeting, held in Amman, Jordan, on Monday.
Omar said Somalia is deeply concerned about the movements and contacts Somaliland is making at the global level. He stressed that Somaliland remains part of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and that no foreign party has the right to engage with them separately.
“Somalia respectfully calls on all Arab states to ensure that their territories are not used to facilitate, finance, normalize or legitimize any form of dealings with this separatist region of the Northwest,” the minister said.

He also urged Arab countries not to allow their financial systems, companies, ports, institutions or any other channels to be used in any way that could support relations it considers unlawful with Somaliland.
Omar said the issue touches on the principle of territorial integrity among Arab states, adding that it is important to prevent any step that could give legitimacy to separatist movements.
He noted that Somalia does not seek tension or escalation, but has the right to defend its sovereignty, unity and internationally recognized borders.
