DJIBOUTI, Aug. 8, 2026 – Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Friday congratulated Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara on Ivory Coast's national day and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between the two countries.
In a message to Ouattara, Guelleh conveyed his "warm congratulations" and said the Djiboutian government and people joined him in expressing solidarity with the Ivorian people, according to Djibouti's state news agency ADI.
Guelleh expressed hope for further progress, development and prosperity for Ivory Coast and said he was pleased with what he described as the continued strengthening of relations between Djibouti and Ivory Coast.
"Be assured of our determination to always work towards strengthening the already privileged ties between our two nations," Guelleh said in the message, according to ADI.

Ivory Coast gained independence from France on Aug. 7, 1960, when then-President Félix Houphouët-Boigny proclaimed the country's independence. The anniversary is observed annually as Ivory Coast's national day.
The message did not announce a new bilateral agreement or specific cooperation initiative between Djibouti and Ivory Coast.
