Somalia, 22 October 2025 — Somali government officials on Wednesday took part in a one-day workshop aimed at strengthening crisis communication protocols during crises, with special focus on coordinated messaging during terrorist incidents.
The workshop, organized by the Strategic Communications and Engagement Unit (SCEU) under the Office of the President, was held in collaboration with communication and media experts from the United Kingdom.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Defence Ahmed Moalim Fiqi highlighted the importance of strengthening intergovernmental coordination and unifying messaging during crises linked to terrorist activities.
He noted that Somalia’s fight against terrorism extends beyond military operations, emphasizing the importance of shaping public perception through accurate, timely and effective messaging.
National Security Adviser Aweys Haji Yusuf emphasized the need for swift, coordinated, and effective communication during crises, expressing appreciation to the United Kingdom for its continued support and partnership in enhancing Somalia’s strategic communication capabilities.
Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Mohamed Amin Osman, commended the initiative, describing it as an important step toward improving the government’s capacity to counter propaganda, misinformation and reinforce credible narratives.
UK Deputy Ambassador to Somalia Sam Thomas praised the workshop as an important component of the broader partnership between the two governments, noting that effective crisis communication is essential for stability and public trust.
