Somalia, 29 April 2026 Somalia will launch a farm equipment loan programme next month to help farmers buy machinery, the agriculture ministry said Tuesday.
The announcement was made during a meeting in Mogadishu attended by farmers, cooperatives, financial institutions and agricultural equipment suppliers, according to a ministry statement.
Discussions focused on how farmers can access affordable loans, repayment mechanisms and priority equipment for investment, the statement added.
Officials also presented plans to strengthen links between farmers, cooperatives and financial institutions to facilitate access to financing.

AgLease Co Ltd, a Zambia-based company, shared experience on agricultural equipment financing and investment models, the statement said.
The programme will be facilitated by the Somali Development and Reconstruction Bank (SDRB) and microfinance institutions.
The ministry said the programme is part of efforts to support agricultural productivity and improve access to finance for farmers.
