Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) Somalia has rejected Israel’s appointment of an ambassador to Somaliland, saying the step violates its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement, the federal government said the decision contravenes international law, including the Charter of the United Nations and African Union principles that recognise Somalia within its internationally accepted borders.
Mogadishu reiterated that Somaliland remains part of the Federal Republic of Somalia and rejected any form of diplomatic recognition outside federal authority.

“This action undermines the international consensus on Somalia’s unity,” the statement said, warning it could affect state-building and governance efforts.
Somalia called on Israel to reverse the decision and urged international organisations, including the United Nations, African Union and European Union, to uphold international law.
Israel on Wednesday named Michael Lotem as a non-resident envoy to Somaliland, following its recognition of the region in December, 2025 a move opposed by Federal Government of Somalia and criticised widly by tens of counties and regional and international bodies.
