Mogadishu, 19 September 2026 Somalia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hassan Mohamed Ali, on Saturday received copies of the credentials of incoming European Union Ambassador to Somalia, László Máthé, the Ministry said.
Máthé also presented the letter of recall of his predecessor, Francesca Di Mauro, formally marking the transition to a new EU Ambassador, according to the ministry.
The appointment was announced on Friday by the European External Action Service (EEAS) as part of a series of senior and middle-management appointments by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. Máthé previously served as Hungary's ambassador to Kenya and as the country's special envoy for the Sahel.

During the meeting, Ali expressed appreciation for the European Union's support for Somalia and its commitment to the country's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, the ministry said.
He reaffirmed the ministry's readiness to work closely with Máthé to strengthen the EU-Somalia partnership, particularly in peace and security, governance, trade and development.
Ali wished Máthé success during his tenure in Somalia, the ministry said.
