Somalia, 12 June 2026 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reaffirmed that the federal government does not recognise the recent leadership election in Jubaland State.
Speaking on Miizaan Podcast, of Dawan Media, the president said the federal government continues to reject the process that returned Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe to office.
Hassan Sheikh said the election was not recognised by Mogadishu and repeated the government’s position that it did not comply with the political framework being implemented elsewhere in the country.
He noted that Puntland’s political arrangements had been established before the current electoral framework was introduced, distinguishing it from the situation in Jubaland.
The president said the government’s objective is not confrontation but encouraging Jubaland authorities to return to what he described as the constitutional and legal process.
