Libya, 11 April 2026 Somalia and Libya held high-level talks in Tripoli on Friday, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing irregular migration, officials said.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Ali, met with Libya’s Acting Foreign Minister Taher Al-Baour for consultations on shared challenges, particularly the situation of Somali migrants traveling through Libya.
The Somali minister highlighted the human cost of irregular migration, noting that many Somali youth undertake dangerous journeys that expose them to exploitation by trafficking networks.

He said Somalia is committed to working closely with Libya to curb illegal migration, dismantle transnational criminal groups involved in human trafficking, and improve protection for Somali nationals.
Officials said around 400 Somali migrants are expected to be repatriated in the coming days, while more than 2,000 were returned last year.
Somalia’s Ministry said the two sides also discussed regional and international developments and agreed to enhance coordination and continued engagement to support stability and shared interests.
