Mogadishu, 26 August 2026 - Somalia's Ministry of Agriculture and the United Nations Office For Project Services (UNOPS) signed an agreement on Wednesday to expand cooperation on irrigation and agricultural infrastructure, the ministry said.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between Agriculture Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareeye and UNOPS Representative Ala'a Nemer, according to the ministry.
It will focus on developing and maintaining irrigation infrastructure to increase and protect agricultural production, the ministry said.

The two sides will also work on flood prevention measures to protect farmland and other resources critical to food security.
The ministry said the cooperation would support efforts to improve food security, manage agricultural resources and implement the National Transformation Plan and National Agricultural Transformation Strategy.
The ministry did not provide details on the financial value, duration or specific projects covered.
