DJIBOUTI, 26 August 2026 — More than 200 people, most of them foreigners, were arrested on Tuesday during a nighttime security operation by intervention units of the Djibouti National Police, as authorities stepped up security measures across the capital.
Police said the operation was part of intensified security measures introduced following recent unrest and disturbances in public areas across the city.
Security forces have increased their presence in several neighborhoods and are conducting targeted operations in areas authorities consider sensitive.
In a statement, police said a 24-hour security presence had been established in those areas to prevent further security incidents.

Security forces also seized weapons that police said were being held illegally.
The detainees were taken to the temporary Nagad facility, where authorities are verifying their identities and documents. Police said those concerned are being processed for return across the border.
The operation comes as Djibouti increases the deployment of security forces across the capital, with authorities saying the measures are intended to maintain stability and protect public safety.
