Somalia, 27 April 2026 Somalia’s Youth Ministry held talks in Galkayo and Las Anod on national youth, peace and security plan, it said on Monday.
The discussions, part of the second phase of a nationwide process, brought together youths and other community members from North East, Puntland and Galmudug, according to a ministry statement.
Consultations in Las Anod focused on youth participation in rebuilding trust and supporting reconciliation in communities affected by political tensions, while meetings in Galkayo centred on inter-community dialogue in the divided city shared by Puntland and Galmudug.
The initiative forms part of Somalia’s effort to translate the global Youth, Peace and Security agenda into a national framework, which recognises young people as key actors in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

During the consultations participants called for greater inclusion of youth in governance and peace processes, improved access to employment and skills, and stronger protection from insecurity and recruitment by armed groups, the ministry said.
The Las Anod and Galkayo meetings follow earlier consultations held in Jubaland, South West State, Hirshabelle and the Banadir region.
The ministry is expected to compile findings from the consultations, which will aid in drafting the plan. The plan aims to guide cooperation between government institutions, federal member states, civil society and international partners.
The process is supported by United Nations agencies including UNFPA and UNDP, the ministry said.
