BRUSSELS (Dawan) – Somalia has thanked the Council of Ministers of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) for cancelling €591,707.17 ( $676,735.49) in outstanding debt, Ambassador Khadija Osoble Ali, Somalia’s representative to Belgium, the Netherlands, and the European Union said.
The move underscores a spirit of collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility among OACPS members, with Somalia reaffirming its commitment to actively participate in the organization’s initiatives and fulfil future obligations.
Founded in 1975 following the Lomé Convention between the European Union and the member states, OACPS promotes economic cooperation, social development, environmental protection, and democratic governance among its members.

The organization comprises 79 countries, including 48 in Africa, 16 in the Caribbean, and 15 in the Pacific, working together to enhance trade, infrastructure, and global cohesion.
The debt relief allows Somalia to concentrate on national reconciliation, economic recovery, social service development, and participation in international cooperation projects.
