Somalia, 1 February 2026 Somalia’s Ministry of Internal Security has confirmed that federal security forces barred Somali Future Council members from bringing armed personnel and weapons into the capital ahead of planned national dialogue talks.
“The government regrets to inform the Somali public that some Future Forum members, scheduled to participate in the dialogue meeting called by the government, attempted this morning to transport troops and unknown weapons into the capital,” the Ministry of Internal Security said in a statement on Sunday.
The ministry said the attempted mobilization violated established security protocols at Aden Adde International Airport and across Mogadishu, which are designed to ensure the safety of citizens and dialogue participants.
“Authorities warned that these actions breached established procedures followed by the federal government, regional states, and previous administrations,” the ministry added.

The statement said that security agencies and the meeting’s organizing committee had informed the Future Forum representatives that unvetted forces and arms would not be allowed.
“The government reaffirms that its commitment to the dialogue remains unchanged and urges all parties to comply with security protocols to ensure the talks take place in a safe and stable environment,” the Ministry of Internal Security said.
The Mogadishu meeting is intended to facilitate political discussions between federal and the Somali Future Council, an opposition Coalition.
