Kenya, February 01, 2026 - Detectives in Nyeri are investigating the killing of a woman and her two young children after their bodies were discovered inside their home in Kagayu area, Nyeri Town Constituency, in a case that has stunned residents.
Nyeri Central Sub County police boss Selinah Kilugha confirmed that the victims were Mary Nafula, 31, and her children Joyline Njeri, aged two, and Wilfred Njaraba, aged six.
“The bodies of the two children were found with fatal stab wounds, while the mother was discovered in the bedroom, hanged and with stab injuries to the neck,” Ms Kilugha said.
Police said officers were alerted to the incident and immediately secured the scene as forensic teams launched investigations.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred inside the house, and detectives are working to establish what transpired before the deaths,” the OCPD said.
The husband of the deceased has been detained to assist police with inquiries as investigations continue.

“A suspect has been taken into custody to aid investigations, and we are appealing to the public to allow police time to complete their work,” Ms Kilugha added.
The killings have sent shockwaves through Kagayu, with residents gathering near the homestead as police cordoned off the area.
Authorities said more information would be released once investigations are complete.
