New York, 24 September 2026 Somalia and the Dominican Republic established diplomatic relations on Wednesday, when their foreign ministers signed a joint communiqué in New York.
Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and Dominican Foreign Minister Victor O. Bisono Haza signed the communiqué during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, according to Somalia's foreign ministry and a statement attributed to its Dominican counterpart.
The Dominican foreign ministry said the two governments established relations in accordance with the Vienna Convention.

Somalia's foreign ministry said the ministers also agreed to strengthen coordination between their countries. It described the move as part of Somalia's efforts to expand partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Neither country announced plans to open embassies or appoint ambassadors.
