Dubrovnik, Croatia | 27 June 2026 — Somalia and Croatia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations for regular dialogue on strengthening diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation.
The agreement was signed in Dubrovnik, Croatia, following a meeting between Somalia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdisalam Ali, and his Croatian counterpart, Gordan Grlić Radman, on the margins of the Dubrovnik Forum.
During the meeting, the two ministers focused on ways to further strengthen relations between Somalia and Croatia in politics, diplomacy, international cooperation and government-to-government engagement. The Political Consultations Agreement is expected to open new opportunities for both sides to hold structured discussions on regional affairs, international issues and the interests of both peoples.

Relations between Somalia and Croatia have made notable progress in recent years, with the two countries formally establishing diplomatic relations in February 2022. Since then, both governments have expressed their willingness to build a relationship based on cooperation, mutual respect and shared interests.
On diplomatic representation, Somalia has appointed a non-resident ambassador to Croatia. Somalia’s Ambassador to Croatia, Abdiasis Mohamud Mohamed, who is based in Berlin, Germany, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, on 13 May 2026. This marked an important step in strengthening Somalia’s diplomatic presence and representation in Croatia.
On Croatia’s side, information from the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs indicates that matters related to Somalia are handled through the Embassy of Croatia in Cairo, Egypt. This shows that the two countries do not yet have resident embassies in Mogadishu or Zagreb, but instead rely on non-resident diplomatic representation.
