MOGADISHU, Somalia, September 22, 2026 Somalia’s Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry has warned against the sale, purchase or transfer of land and buildings it owns in Afgoye district in the Lower Shabelle region.
In an official notice signed by Director-General Mohamed Hassan Abdulle on Tuesday, the ministry said the warning covered property in Buundo Carbis, Lafoole and other areas around Afgoye.
The properties listed in the notice include land belonging to the former AFMET Agricultural Extension Project, the land and buildings of the Agricultural University and Agricultural School, and other ministry-owned property in the area.
The ministry ordered people selling, buying, transferring or brokering transactions involving the properties to stop such activities.
Notaries and others responsible for drafting, certifying or legalising agreements were also instructed not to approve transactions involving the land without formal written permission from the ministry.

“Anyone involved in the sale, purchase, transfer or legalisation of land belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation will bear full legal responsibility for the consequences,” the notice said.
The ministry said it would take action against anyone found to have encroached on its property.
The notice was sent to the Lower Shabelle regional administration, Afgoye district authorities and Somali police at the district and federal levels.
The ministry said civilians currently living on the land would not be evicted. However, they would not be permitted to sell or transfer the property or establish new ownership claims.
