MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) — The Somali Salvation Forum said it had formally notified Banaadir regional authorities and Somali security agencies that peaceful protests would take place across Mogadishu on Sunday, May 10, according to a statement issued by the group.
The notice was addressed to the Banaadir regional governor and mayor of Mogadishu, the Somali police commissioner and the national intelligence chief, the statement said.
According to the forum, demonstrations are planned at 22 locations across the capital.
The group described the protests as a constitutional right guaranteed under Article 20 of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution, which it said allows citizens to organize and participate in peaceful demonstrations without prior government approval.
