Ethiopia, 22 October 2025 — An exhibition showcasing a variety of livestock and agricultural products officially opened on Tuesday in Jigjiga, the capital of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.
The fair, organized by the Feed the Future Ethiopia Transforming Agriculture (ETA) project with support from the U.S. government, aims to strengthen linkages between small and large businesses and expand market access for local agricultural and livestock products from the Faafan and Siti zones.
The opening ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including the Deputy Minister of the Somali Regional State’s Bureau of Trade and Transport, Abdullahi Aden, and the Mayor of Jigjiga, Shafi Ahmed, who both praised ongoing efforts to enhance local production and promote business growth across the region.
The three-day exhibition features companies selected from ten districts, showcasing a range of livestock products such as eggs, milk, and butter, as well as diverse agricultural produce, including different types of vegetables and other farm crops.
Officials from the Somali Regional State said the Jigjiga fair is part of broader efforts to stimulate the growth of small businesses, create new market opportunities, and strengthen connections between local entrepreneurs and national and international markets.
The Feed the Future ETA project has previously contributed to improving agricultural and livestock productivity, helping small-scale businesses in the region gain access to new markets and sustainable investment opportunities.
