DJIBOUTI, July 21 2026 – A community development committee in Djibouti has launched a pilot microcredit programme offering interest-free loans to young entrepreneurs in Mouloud village, the state-run Djiboutian News Agency (ADI) reported on Tuesday.
According to ADI, the Mouloud Development Committee (CDM) introduced the initiative to support youth entrepreneurship and address unemployment and poverty in the village, located in Dikhil region.
The programme provides each beneficiary with an interest-free loan of $560 (100,000 Djiboutian francs), repayable over 16 months, to finance the creation or expansion of small income-generating businesses, ADI said.

The first round of financing was launched during a ceremony attended by regional and local officials, including Dikhil Prefect Hassan Abdi Robleh, Regional Council President Mahad Houssein Ahmed, Mouloud Sub-Prefect Moussa Ahmed Ougoureh, and CDM President Mohamed Sougueh Barreh.
Officials described the initiative as a pilot project intended to encourage private enterprise among young people and expand access to financing for small businesses, ADI reported.
The committee hopes to broaden the programme over time to allow more young entrepreneurs to obtain financing for their business projects, according to ADI.
