JIGJIGA (Dawan Africa) – July 29, 2026 – The Finance Bureau of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State has announced that the region’s annual budget for the 2019 Ethiopian calendar year, equivalent to 2026, has reached 108.97 billion birr, representing an increase of more than 60% compared with the previous budget.
The head of the Finance Bureau said the increased budget reflects growth in the region’s revenue collection and efforts to strengthen financial management, with priority areas including security and stability, agricultural and livestock development, completion of ongoing projects, strengthening government institutions and creating employment opportunities.
According to the bureau, the budget will be financed through several sources, including 49.3 billion birr expected from the Ethiopian federal government and 47.47 billion birr from locally generated revenue within the region.

The official said domestic revenue has continued to increase in recent years, with more than 51% of the annual budget expected to come from internal sources, while the remaining funds will be provided through federal support and other financing channels.
The budget also includes 5.1 billion birr from local government revenues and 2.6 billion birr from external grants and other development resources, according to the Finance Bureau.
Officials said the increase in the annual budget reflects efforts to expand the region’s revenue base and improve financial management systems. The funds will be directed toward improving public services, supporting development projects and promoting economic growth across Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.
