Somalia, 11 June 2026 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud inaugurated development projects in Jowhar on Thursday, including new presidential palace, government buildings and paved roads in Hirshabelle State capital.
The president, who was accompanied by Hirshabelle President Ali Abdullahi Hussein, opened the newly built Hirshabelle presidential palace, as well as new buildings for the ministries of education and finance.
He also inaugurated paved roads aimed at improving mobility and safety in Jowhar.
Mohamoud said the projects reflected efforts by Hirshabelle’s leadership to strengthen government services, develop economic infrastructure and improve services for residents.
The president also laid the foundation stone for Hirshabelle’s Civil Service Commission headquarters and other government facilities, which officials said would support public administration and institutional efficiency.

Speaking at the event, Mohamoud praised authorities for completing the projects despite various logistical challenges.
Hirshabelle presidency spokesman Mohamed Shuuriye Nur said additional road projects were underway in Beledweyne, while government facilities had also been built in Mahas and Rage Ceele.
He said the state was also looking at future projects linked to tourism, ports and airports, including a planned airport project referred to as New Mogadishu.
Hirshabelle is one of Somalia’s federal member states and includes parts of the country’s central and southern regions.
