Somalia, 22 December, 2025 The Somali Police Force has unveiled its security plan to ensure the safety of the Banadir region local council elections on 25 December. The plan is primarily based on restricting general movement across the city during polling day.
The decision to impose movement restrictions followed an emergency meeting chaired by Somali Police Force Commissioner, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, which was attended by senior officers from all police commands, units, and specialized departments. The meeting reviewed the security situation, potential threats, and measures aimed at preventing any disruption to the electoral process.
The security plan focuses on several key areas, including controlling the movement of vehicles and civilians, tightening security at polling stations, and ensuring the safety of election staff and voters. The Police Commissionerinstructed officers to be fully prepared for election day and to prioritize facilitating the public so they can cast their votes in a calm and secure environment.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Somali Police Force spokesperson, Abdifitah Aden Hassan, said the movement restrictions are a preventive measure intended to minimize security risks and ensure the elections proceed smoothly. He added that police forces will be on full alert and will work closely with other security agencies.
The spokesperson also noted that the police have prepared vehicles and specialized teams to respond to emergencies and provide rapid assistance to individuals in situations requiring urgent support.
