Somalia, 22 May 2026 Somalia’s police force said no terrorist incidents have been recorded in Mogadishu in recent weeks, crediting improved security.
Police spokesperson Abdifatah Aden said a report delivered by the commander of the Banadir Regional Police during Thursday's security meeting found that the capital’s security had remained stable.
“It was confirmed that no terrorist incidents were recorded in the capital during the past weeks,” the spokesperson said.
The meeting also reviewed reports on counterterrorism operations and criminal investigations, with security officials saying inquiries were continuing into operations carried out during the previous week.
During the meeting, the Somali Police Commissioner directed that police-owned vehicles would no longer be allowed to undergo repairs or maintenance at privately owned garages.

Police warned garage owners and mechanics in Mogadishu against servicing vehicles belonging to the force, saying legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the directive.
The meeting also discussed what police described as a rise in inappropriate content being shared on social media platforms.
According to the spokesperson, the police commissioner instructed relevant departments to increase monitoring efforts and take legal action against individuals violating the law.
Somali police said they have intensified security operations in Mogadishu and surrounding areas as part of efforts to prevent attacks by armed groups and strengthen security in the capital.
