Somalia, 22 May 2026 Somali police have arrested six people accused of disrupting security operations and causing congestion at checkpoints in Mogadishu, according to a statement issued Friday by the Banadir Regional Police Command.
Police said the suspects were detained during an operation conducted by officers from the Banadir Regional Police Command after allegedly participating in coordinated activities that interfered with security inspections aimed at safeguarding the capital.
The statement identified the detainees and said they were being held pending preliminary investigations before referral to the relevant judicial authorities.
Authorities alleged that the suspects were involved in activities that threatened public security, stability and the movement of people and vehicles within the city. Reuters could not independently verify the allegations.

The Banadir Regional Police Command said security agencies were continuing efforts to locate other individuals suspected of involvement in similar incidents.
Police also reiterated warnings against unauthorized gatherings and actions deemed harmful to public order, stressing that demonstrations and public assemblies require approval from the relevant security authorities and compliance with established legal procedures.
“Anyone found engaging in violent acts or activities that threaten public security will face legal action in accordance with the laws of the country,” the statement said. Police said investigations were ongoing.
