Mahaday, 20 August 2026 Two suspected Al-Shabaab members were killed during a police operation in Mahaday, Middle Shabelle, after explosives were found buried at the town’s livestock market.
Somali National Television (SNTV) reported that security forces received intelligence about explosives allegedly planted to target civilians.
Quoting the commander of Mahaday Police Station, Brig. Gen. Suleyman Cowsey, SNTV said officers responded to the scene and killed the two men accused of planting the devices.

Footage broadcast by SNTV showed the bodies of the two men alongside an explosive device police said had been recovered from the market. Authorities said a second explosive detonated, although no information was provided on possible casualties or damage.
The operation comes as Somali and regional security forces continue military operations against Al-Shabaab in several parts of the country.
