Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has departed for China to attend the 7th China-Arab States Expo, which will take place in Yinchuan from August 28–31, 2025. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the expo presents an opportunity for Somalia to strengthen its economic and diplomatic ties with China and the Arab world.
“The expo is a crucial opportunity for Somalia to participate in the development of economic relations and strategic partnerships between China and the Arab world,” the statement read.
The event, which will be hosted at the Yinchuan International Exhibition Center, will focus on enhancing economic cooperation, technological advancements, and clean energy solutions.
However, Prime Minister Hamza’s participation at this ministerial-level event has raised questions, as no heads of state or high-ranking international leaders, such as the President or other Prime Ministers, are attending.
This comes at a time when U.S. Senators are pushing strongly for the recognition of Somaliland, and tensions rise over China’s stance on Taiwan and Somaliland.
