Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – On Monday, June 23, 2025, the Somali National Army (SNA) escorted journalists to several sites in the Lower Shabelle region that were recently cleared of Al-Shabaab hideouts during ongoing military operations.

The operation, aimed at securing regions previously under Al-Shabaab control, resulted in significant casualties for the militant group. The Defense Ministry confirmed that at least 20 Al-Shabaab militants were killed after a coordinated attack on military positions in the central Hiraan region. This assault, which occurred on Sunday, was met with swift retaliation from the SNA, supported by local militias.
“Nearly 20 militants were killed, others fled. Pursuit operations are ongoing. The Ministry of Defense remains committed to defending Somalia and ending Al-Shabaab terrorism,” the Ministry stated in an update on social media platform X.
