Mogadishu (Dawan Africa), 27 July 2026 — The Somali Future Council has urged countries contributing troops and police to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to back an inclusive political agreement to anchor Somalia’s security transition and state-building.
In an open letter issued on Sunday and addressed to the leaders of Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Burundi and Egypt, the Council called on AUSSOM contributors gathered in Kampala to promote dialogue and support a Somali-led political settlement. It said the continuation of international security assistance depends on political progress.
The letter warned that Somalia faces a dangerous political situation, with no agreement yet on how to manage the transitional period or renew constitutional institutions.

The Council said political disputes and divisions are weakening national unity and undermining operations against Al-Shabaab and Daesh. It also expressed concern over deteriorating relations between the Federal Government and the federal member states of Puntland and Jubaland, whose forces are engaged in fighting the armed groups.
The Council proposed establishing an inclusive transitional council to jointly oversee constitutional and electoral processes until legitimate national institutions are peacefully renewed.
According to the letter, such a body could restore political confidence, safeguard the neutrality of the Somali National Army, and ensure the transition is managed transparently, inclusively and credibly.
