Somalia,15 April 2026 — The opposition alliance Somali Future Council threatened Thursday to establish a parallel election if President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pushes ahead without consensus, warning the country risks a constitutional crisis.
The Council said Parliament’s mandate expired April 14, 2026, leaving Somalia without a legal legislature. President Hassan Sheikh’s own term ends May 15, it added.
It accused the president of offering only “two unacceptable electoral options” that could trigger instability, but did not detail them.
