Somalia, 22 December 2025 The Council of the Future of Somalia has announced its full support for the outcomes of the Somali National Consultative Conference held in the city of Kismayo from 18 to 20 December, reaffirming its commitment to implementing the decisions adopted at the forum.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the council – an umbrella grouping bringing together Jubaland and Puntland regional leaders alongside key opposition figures - said it convened a special meeting in Kismayo, during which it held in-depth discussions on the country’s overall situation, particularly political, security, and economic issues, as well as the future trajectory of Somalia’s political process.
The statement noted that the council received a briefing from its technical committee, which presented a plan to complete the council’s organizational structure, alongside its overarching vision and the principles that will guide its work in the coming phase.
According to the statement, the council approved its organizational framework and mandates, and endorsed the formation of a six-member executive team tasked with coordination and secretariat duties. The team represents the Puntland and Jubaland administrations, in addition to the Somali Salvation Forum, and will be responsible for steering the council’s activities and ensuring coordination among its components.

The council also authorized the coordinator and the secretariat to prepare a priority action plan for the next three months, as part of efforts to move toward a more structured implementation phase.
The statement outlined a set of core priorities, including safeguarding national unity, protecting the 2012 Provisional Constitution, advancing state-building in line with the federal system, ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections on schedule, and rejecting any attempts at term extensions or power monopolization.
The council further emphasized the need to depoliticize security and public service institutions, strengthen counterterrorism efforts, combat corruption, raise public awareness about Somalia’s state-building future, deepen relations with the international community and regional countries, and lead national consultative processes aimed at protecting Somalia’s statehood.
In closing, the council expressed its appreciation to the government and people of Jubaland for hosting the National Consultative Conference, and commended the participation of members of both houses of parliament, politicians, intellectuals, and representatives of various segments of Somali society.
