Hudur (Dawan Africa) – The Somali National Army (SNA) has reported the killing of a senior Al-Shabaab leader, Abdullahi Abukar Ali, following a military operation carried out early Sunday morning in Warta Ey Dure, located 30 km north of Hudur in the Bakol region.
The SNA said the operation, which took place around 7:00 AM, targeted Abdullahi Abukar Ali, who was reportedly a high-ranking member of Al-Shabaab and served as the group’s financial chief for the region. He was also said to have been involved in recruiting children to join the group’s militia.
“The SNA confirms that the operation was a carefully planned mission with a specific target, and that an Al-Shabaab network operating in the area was dismantled,” a statement from the Somali military read.
Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the reported killing, and independent verification of the event is still pending.This operation comes as part of ongoing security efforts by the Somali government, in coordination with international partners, to target and dismantle Al-Shabaab cells in southern and central Somalia.
